The Entrance to Aspen – The Votes

The original Castle Creek Bridge was built in 1891 when the Holden Lixiviation Works, the largest industrial complex in the history of Pitkin County, was built on the south west banks of Castle Creek, blocking the straight shot into Aspen. Highway 82 was officially incorporated into the state highway system in 1911. It was paved to Aspen by 1938. The original bridge was replaced in 1961. In the last four decades, there have been TWENTY SIX votes on the Entrance to Aspen and Highway 82.
