A woman participating in the first Annual Snowmass Ski and Swim Contest, 1969. Related images are in the Aspen Illustrated News on April 10, 1969 (page 19), with a caption reading "The first Annual Snowmass Ski and Swim Contest was held last Friday on and in the snow and pools of Fanny Hill. Nine brave contestants entered, going from hot to cold or wet to wax thrice before emerging from the waters to quaff the wine awaiting at the finish line. Merchandise prizes were also given but the greatest fun seemed to be the invigoration of the chilling race."

AHS is honored to partner with Aspen Chapel Gallery on their new show, PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE, opening TODAY, March 6th with a reception from 4 - 7. The show features historical images from the AHS Collection reimagined by multiple generations of artists. The show runs through April 13 and a portion of profits support AHS!

According to curator Sam Louras, “the premise of the show includes Aspen’s history with AHS archive photographs relating to the art that the present artists are creating. Area artists are collaborating with their grown adult children who are also artists. Thus, the past, present and future.”

Participating artists include: Neil and Finn Beidleman, John and Jake Bozza, Curt and Cornelia Carpenter, Niki, Katrina and Nicholas DeVore III, Rae and Lucy Lampe, Sam and Peter Louras III, Peter and Laurie McBride, Jayne and Leif Mosher, Greg, Jony, Willow Poschman and Christie Interlante.

This image is in the Aspen Flyer on March 2, 1963, with a caption reading "What might be the best attended square dance here in several years is scheduled Saturday at 8:30 PM at the Aspen Highlands triple A-frame lodge. It`s the second in a series of twice monthly hoe-downs in preparation for the State Square Dance Festival here in June. Dancers from throughout the Roaring Fork Valley are expected to attend."

Skiers riding the Half Inch chairlift at the base of Highlands, 1966. The lodge and parking lot are visible in the background. The lift was 250 feet long, with a vertical rise of 40 feet and a capacity of 300 skiers per hour. It was powered by a 1947 Dodge truck.
