Book Talks: Jay Cowan, Lou Dawson & Mike Marolt
Join local authors and adventurers for a lively discussion about their latest works, alpine endeavors, and more in conversation with Greg Poschman.
The discussion will begin at 3 with book-signing to follow. The event is free; books will be available for purchase with a portion of proceeds to benefit Aspen Historical Society’s history education programs.
Jay Cowan, a lifelong skier and prolific writer, explores the arc of the skiing story in his latest book, Going Downhill Fast: And Other Stories From Skiing’s Extremes, including historical perspectives, the evolution of extremes, and “a trove of reference information and facts” about alpine recreation.
In his new memoir Avalanche Dreams, renowned mountaineer Lou Dawson shares stories from his climbing and skiing life in a “tumultuous coming-of-age journey, steeped in the counterculture revolution of the 1960s.”
U.S Ski and Snowboard Hall of Famer and native Aspenite Mike Marolt narrates his account of “the first American ski descent from an 8,000-meter peak” in Shishapangma, Skiing the Highline.
(In case of inclement weather, this event will move to the Aspen Community Church, 200 E Bleeker St.)
