History in Your Backyard: Hallam Lake

Walk around the historic Hallam Lake and hear the stories of the longtime community gathering place at the heart of Aspen. Now a nature preserve and home to Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, the property once featured an ice-production facility, community dance hall, boat house, toboggan run, and more before it was permanently protected thanks to Elizabeth Paepcke.

The History in Your Backyard series features short lunch-hour tours to explore the stories of familiar places in the Aspen area.

Meet inside the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies Hallam Lake nature center, 100 Puppy Smith St.

This brief walking tour takes place on packed trails on the nature preserve.
