Special Anniversary tour in partnership with Aspen Music Festival and School and the Wheeler Opera House

Enjoy a guided tour inside the Wheeler Opera House,* the center of Aspen’s arts and cultural scene since it was built in 1889. This free tour offers an insider’s look at the iconic building, including its recent renovations, and storied past.

New this summer, the tour expands the history of Aspen, the Wheeler Opera House, and the Aspen Music Festival and School in celebration of both organizations’ milestone anniversaries in 2024. “These tours provide an insider glimpse into the fascinating and unusual history of these storied institutions, and commemorate the 40th anniversary of the reopening of the Wheeler Opera House and the AMFS’s 75th anniversary season.”

On Wednesdays following the tour, consider attending Aspen Music Festival and School’s free High Notes panel discussion in Bad Harriet at the nearby Hotel Jerome at noon. Walk-ups accommodated on a space-available basis.

*The Wheeler Opera House is also part of the Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit, which was formed in 2022 and includes five opera houses in the mountains of Colorado where visitors can experience “a world-class performance in an elegant historic setting that still carries the mystique of Colorado’s early mining boom days.”

Meets in the downstairs lobby of the Wheeler Opera House
320 E. Hyman Ave.

This tour takes place indoors.
