It's Time!
A museum at the heart of Aspen’s storied ski and snowsports culture.
For decades, Aspen Historical Society has dreamed of a museum at the base of Aspen Mountain to showcase the community’s vast snowsports history. The forthcoming Aspen Snowsports History Museum at Skiers Chalet—a slopeside history experience coupled with welcoming public spaces, a small café, Aspen Snowmass guest services, and an adjacent city park—will make this dream a reality. We invite you to join us in bringing Aspen’s newest cultural destination and community hub to life.
AHS has begun initial museum and exhibition planning and will be launching a capital campaign to fund finishing its portion of the building renovation, completing the museum, and creating exhibits and programs.
The Lift:
The Aspen Snowsports History Museum Capital Campaign aims to raise $20 million in total. The AHS Board of Directors are committed to raising the necessary funds to create the museum.
$18 million in capital expenses to restore and renovate the interior of the Skiers Chalet Lodge building: including 3,000 square feet of exhibit space, a multi-use community space, a café, gift shop, locker rooms, and restrooms.
$2 million to cover museum operations and maintenance as well as year-round community programming (for first 4 years)
The Aspen Snowsports History Museum at Skiers Chalet will be a welcome community asset—a place for people to gather, celebrate, and learn. Aspen has been waiting a long time for a ski museum and Robert and I are excited to see it come to fruition!
