Aspen Snowsports History Museum
at Skiers Chalet

What’s old is (going to be) new again at the base of Aspen Mountain. A new history museum in the historic Skiers Chalet lodge building will bring the past to life as part of a vibrant community hub. Aspen voters saved the building; we’re saving the stories.

About the Project

On March 5, 2019, Aspen voters approved the Lift One Corridor redevelopment, including a museum run by Aspen Historical Society in the restored Skiers Chalet lodge building. The new Aspen Snowsports History Museum will feature a café, year-round gathering spaces, Aspen Snowmass operations, and public restrooms. Skiers Chalet will anchor the vibrant cultural center, revitalizing the birthplace of Aspen skiing.

An exciting chapter lies ahead for Aspen Mountain’s historic portal.

The lift that changed Aspen.

Aspen Mountain’s western base area was home to Aspen’s first true chairlift and the site remains integral to the legacy of skiing in the community and the world. Lift 1 changed Aspen–and the trajectory of international snowsports–across its celebrated history.
